about

Following a short hiatus from solo releases, Mac Lloyd returns with the next instalment of Sweetheart Soul Jams! Having garnered support from BBC introducing, The Wire magazine, Chuck D (AndYouDontStop radio show) & DJ Shorty (ChipShop Brixton) amongst others, Mac has pushed the sweet and soulful elements of these tracks to new heights. In Pt. 6 Mac touches on the topic of returning to his hometown to see his loved ones, only to find that place and those people have faded away into an obscurity he is unfamiliar with. It is home, but it's different. And it won't ever be the same again.

Using his upfront and sometimes brutal lyricism Mac reflects on the hometown that feels nothing short of alien to him now. The track is entirely written, produced, mixed and mastered by Mac Lloyd, with smooth guitar work and a hard hitting instrumental, Mac's signature touch is prevalent throughout this one. Available via Green Brick Records 8th October 2021 through all digital streaming outlets and the labels Bandcamp, with a subtle yet gripping and complimentary visual provided by the incredible film maker Ned Espeut-Nickless.

lyrics

This place is alien
Lets get away
And if its way too much to be taking in
Then I'd say we need some space

Growing thin my patience is
Now i've paid this visit i'm vacating
I've paid my debts and my pace is swift
Paid in full.

When I walk on through that door I'm reminded that you're gone
The air so thick, the scent so strong
It's bittersweet
It's bittersweet
Let's go driving, we don't need a destination
I wanna feel the wind in my hair
Lets go cruising, until til the sun does rise
Just let me blow my smoke, forget my cares

Yeah it's been too long honey
I need to feel the breeze up on me
So many headlights
We're downtown
Keep it down low
Yeah we smoked out
With nowhere to be tomorrow, I light it up
Keep on smoking to drown my sorrows, with every puff
distracting me from my own doubts
when we're out late in my hometown
Do you remember there was a time
We'd spend all of our days here
Now I can't even face you
Now i cannot face you at all
I keep running
Oh its the company I crave but you're no longer here
I keep running
Just the empty shells of people that I once held dear

When I walk on through that door I'm reminded that you're gone
The air so thick, the scent so strong
It's bittersweet
It's bittersweet
Let's go driving, we don't need a destination
I wanna feel the wind in my hair
Lets go cruising, until til the sun does rise
Just let me blow my smoke, forget my cares
